The Augustus M. Witherspoon Leadership Award

Congratulations Mr. Gore!

The Augustus M. Witherspoon Leadership Award

Over the weekend of October 17-20, Stuart’s Willie Mr. Gore was awarded the Augustus M. Witherspoon Leadership Award at the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters District Convention for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Competition for the Augustus M. Witherspoon Leadership Award was limited to those brothers and chapters having been certified by their Chapter President as a candidate to represent the chapter for competition at the district conference.

Mr. Gore went toe-to-toe with representatives from the state which encompasses the 67 counties and includes some 20 alumni chapters. To clench the victory, Mr. Gore was required to give a 7-minute oral presentation and provided a documentation book on his various community service efforts, both in connection with the fraternity and beyond. The documentation was to be specific to the fraternity’s National Programs and Initiatives.

Mr. Gore is now on the road to the Regional award which will be decided at the fraternity’s Regional conference, which takes place in Mobile, Alabama in March 2020, and will pit Mr. Gore against other members across the region which includes the states of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Mr. Gore is a member and officer with the Eta Kappa Lambda Chapter located on the Treasure Coast and seated in Ft. Pierce.  He is chair of the Benevolent Committee, Chaplin and sponsor of the mentoring group (Men of Tomorrow) where he has served for 15 years, to name a few.  Mr. Gore’s award marks the second consecutive year that the local chapter has received the top honor.
