COVID-19 UPDATE Library Processes and Procedures
Purpose: To set forth guidelines of a process that addresses safety for students and staff while meeting the responsibilities of the library. Guidelines address visits, shared equipment and material resources processes and procedures.
According to the CDC, in order to protect from the Coronavirus a person should do the following:
- Maintain good social distancing (about 6 feet).
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
- Wear a mask.
With this guidance in mind there are a few changes in the library. All visitors to the library for the purpose of Clicnic 1 use will wear a mask or face covering while in the library. Visitors will either use handsanitizer or wash their hands upon visiting and exiting. Visitors to the main library will be limited to no more than 10 at a time. All visitors to the library will practice safe physical distancing as described by the CDC guidelines for stopping the spread of COVID-19.
Library functions will move to an online process for current transactions that are performed on paper and/or in face-to-face.This will mean changes to the following transaction processes:
- Equipment borrowing (staff and students)
- Book checkout (staff and students)
- Book check in (staff and students)
- Book processing from check in to shelving
- Media requests (lamination, paper cut outs etc)
- Using staff bathrooms located in the library during class transitions (staff)

The mission of the Murray Middle School Library/Media Center is to provide students with resources in multiple formats that reach various learning styles, resources and programs supporting social and emotional learning, and the opportunity to become users and creators of information. The library supports curriculum by collaborating with teachers, developing a collection representative of the community, nurturing a love for reading, and implementing programs supporting cross content literacy.
The library/media center is open for students and staff of Murray Middle School. At the start of the 2020-2021 school year the library is suspending many programs. Makerspace is suspended at this time. A review of the program start will take place at the end of the second quarter for the start of the third quarter. There are many literacy programs and fun library events geared towards encouraging the love of reading and learning. The library houses fictional and non-fiction/reference books organized using the Dewey Decimal System. In addition to the physical library space a large amount of informational resources are available to students in the e-student library.
Hours of Operation
The library is open Monday- Friday on school calendar days to students from 8:50 AM - 4:00 PM. The library is closed on occasion for staff/faculty meetings, special occasions, and FSA testing days. Due to the reorganization of the library, there are no students visits to the library.
