Paws to read is a library program that works in conjunction with the Humane Society. Paws to read pairs a highly trained service dog and human handler with a student. These special pairs spend 20 minutes together strengthening social, emotional and reading abilities. Students meet with their volunteers for 20 minutes and read aloud. Sessions benefit readers who feel comfortable and supported in reading to their furry friend and receive support from their human partner.
Students report feeling better about reading and more confident. Progress in student's reading ability is observed by volunteers.
