• Music In Our Schools

    (typically held in March final date TBA)


    Students are selected to participate and represent the IMS based on their outstanding musicianship and behavior to be a part of the MIOS Band.  The group consists of a combination of select students from each music program in the county brought together to perform at this prestigious concert.


    The first rehearsal will be held after school at Hidden Oaks Middle School (date TBA). The second rehearsal (date also TBA) will take your child out of school at 9:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.  We will take a bus over to Martin County High School Band Room and Gymnasium for the rehearsal.  Students will need to bring their instrument, appropriate music and supplies, and a folding music stand.  We will rehearse with the MIOS Middle School Band in the band room, and then rehearse in the gym with EVERYONE, which includes an elementary chorus, middle school chorus, high school chorus, high & middle school band!


    For the big concert that same night, students will board a bus that will take us to Martin County High. If you plan on attendng the concert on your own you will need to arrive at Martin County High in time for the band to be in their place no later than 6:30 p.m. in their full, formal uniform with their instrument, music, and music stand.  Please arrive early for parking. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and will feature all of the aforementioned groups. The students will be free to go home at the end of the concert, approximately 8:15 p.m. Students riding the bus back to IMS will return by 9 pm.  

    Student interested in participating in MIOS may be required to audition. Requirements for the audition will be mentioned in class and as the event date comes closer. Auditions will typically inclue performance of scales, etuude exercises , a prepared piece and sight-reading exercise. All students are encouraged to participate.
