Project SEARCH

  • Project SEARCH is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please see Application Packet link to the left.  All Applications are due as soon as possible.

    Project SEARCH is a one year, high school transition program offered through the Martin County School District.  Project SEARCH provides training and education leading to possible employment for individuals 
    with disabilities.  

    Project SEARCH serves as a workforce alternative for students age 18-21 in their last year of high school or students 18-21 that graduated with a standard diploma via access points (or aspecial diploma).    

    Each individual applies to the program and is accepted through an interview process by a panel of committee members.  Selection of new interns for the next school year is done at the end of each school year.  Recruiting is done throughout the school year.  For entrance requirements please refer to the Project SEARCH Entrance Criteria Sheet.

    Project SEARCH is based on a partnership that includes Martin Health System, Martin County School District, Helping People Succeed (HPS), The ARC Of Martin County (ARC), and Vocational Rehabilitation (VR).  All partners are vital to the success of the program.  Martin Health System provides a training classroom, a business liaison and rotational internships for on-the-job training.  The School District provides the teacher and paraprofessional.  HPS and ARC prvide a Job Coach to work with students on their internships and provide job development and follow along services for Vocational Rehabilitation eligivle students.

    The cornerstone of Project SEARCH is total immersion in a large business.  Each day, student interns report to the host business, learn employability skills in the classroom and job skills while participating in 3 internships/experiences during the year.  Students participate in class to define their career goal and plan necessary steps to achieve that goal.

    Supervisors at the intership sites work with the Project SEARCH Instructor and Job Coaches to support the Interns.  Interns get continual feedback from the internship supervisor, co-workers and Project SEARCH staff.  Interns end their day by reflection, problem solving, planning and journaling their key objectives learned each day.  The ulitmate goal upon program completion is competitive employment utilizing the skills learned on the interships and throughout the program.
