Student learning is at the heart of all we do. The goal of the Laptops for Learning program in the Martin County School District (“District”) is to enhance student education by ensuring that each high school student has a digital device. In year one of the program, the District will provide a new laptop to every participating 9th grade student attending JBHS, MCHS and SFHS. This same laptop will remain in the possession of the student during the regular school year as long as the student is enrolled in onsite classes at JBHS, MCHS or SFHS. Students choosing not to participate should plan to bring his or her own device to school.
The purpose of the program is to prepare students for a world of technology and digital information. Excellence in education requires technology be seamlessly integrated throughout the educational program; however, technology immersion does not diminish the vital role of the teacher. To the contrary, technology is a great tool assisting the teacher in the transformation from a director of learning to a facilitator of learning. The individual use of laptops is a way to empower students to learn at their full potential and to prepare them for the future. The use of technology encourages students to problem solve and think critically by stimulating analytical thinking.
The District provides digital resources to serve as transformational research, creation and communication tools for students and teachers. These resources help teachers facilitate education and exploration consistent with the objectives of the courses offered in the District. The District’s technology resources may include but are not limited to: network, Internet, computer hardware, software, printers, servers, data files, email, digital images and new technologies as they become available.
